pattern of upsc civil services Pre exam 2013 Syllabus

union public service commission civil services Pre exam would comprise two compulsory papers. 
Paper 1 would carry 200 marks. Total two would be given for paper I.
Paper 2 would carry 200 marks. Total two hour would be given for paper II 
Both questions will be MCQ type (Multiple choice questions) with objective questions.
Its compulsory to all candidates to participate in both paper of UPSC civil service examination for the purpose of evaluation. So if you will not participate in both paper then you would be disqualified. UPSC civil service examination would carry total 400 marks of two papers.
Total number of candidates to be admitted to the Main Examination will be about 12 to 13 times the total approximate number of vacancies to be filled in the year in the various Services and Posts. Only those candidates who will be qualified successful in pre exam would get a chance to participate in mains examination. UPSC Interview Test will carry 300 marks.

  • Last Current events of national and international importance.
  • Indian history and National Movement of India
  • Indian and World Geography - Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World.
  • Indian Polity and Governance - Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
  • Economic and Social Development - Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion,
  • Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc.
  • General issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change - that do not require subject specialization
  • General Science.
 UPSC Civil service Exam 2013 Paper 2 Question Paper pattern  and Syllabus
  • Paper II- (200 marks) Duration: Two hours
  • Comprehension
  • Interpersonal skills including communication skills;
  • Logical reasoning and analytical ability
  • Decision-making and problem solving
  • General mental ability
  • Basic numeric (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.)
  • (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. - Class X level)
  • English Language Comprehension skills (Class X level).
